Welcome Gladiator Swim & Dive 2017/2018

2017-18 RELEASE AND IDEMNIFICATION with JCHS 081717-2

All athletes who are trying out for the 2017/2018 swim/dive team MUST register through the JCHS athletics page and create a VNN account.  Click on the black link in the upper corner that says “Register for Sports”   Do not use the registration under our program links.

All forms need to be completed in order to participate in the try outs and can be completed on-line except the Physical and the Dynamo release to use their facility (which can be found above) or you can pick up a copy from Ms. Gooden in room #155.

Deadline for all forms to be completed is October 6 or you CAN NOT participate in try outs.

Try outs schedule:  Girls Monday 10/16 9pm-10pm   Boys Tuesday 10/17 9pm-10pm

All team meeting Wednesday 10/18 6:30 pm

Informational meeting will be held on Monday, September 25th in the JCHS media center at 6:30 p.m.  Interested swimmers and divers are encouraged to attend,  to meet the coaches and learn details about the upcoming team tryouts.  Please bring your current physical form which is required for athletes who will be participating in try outs!

Johns Creek – Cambridge – Wesleyan Tri Meet

Gladiators brought home another win on Friday after beating both Cambridge and Wesleyan!

In the girls 1-meter diving, Sophomore Jackie Lopez finished an impressive fourth place in light of the stiff competition from Wesleyan. Junior Abby Friedel and Sophomore Allison Richards were sixth and ninth, respectively. Their points enabled the Johns Creek girls to defeat Wesleyan by a mere 4 points! Junior Oliver Junnila and Sophomore Harrison Dunmire also performed well, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Highlights of the meet included JCHS clinching 1st and 3rd in the boys 200 medley relay with the team of Adrian Iannamico, Connor Schorer, Leon Grinberg and Ethan Davey taking first and the team of Wirth Federico, Turner Hill, Ruixing Zhang and Drew Hill taking third. The girls took 2nd in the 200 medley with the team of Amy Hitzel, Bella Cicogna, Dharma Hufnagel and Alison Durrence. Sarah McWhirter placed 2nd in the 200 Free. Ethan Davey and Connor Schorer placed 1st and 2nd respectively in the 200 IM. Bella Cicogna and Amy Hitzel took 1st and 3rd respectively in the 200 IM. Alison Durrence and Allie ElGomayel finished two and three respectively in the 50 Free. Adrian Iannamico took 1st and Wirth Federico took 3rd in the 100 Fly. Bella Cicogna clinched 1st place in the girls 100 Fly and also swam a personal best time. Ethan Davey took 2nd in the boys 100 Free while Alison Durrence and Allie ElGomayel had a 1, 2 finish in the 100 Free. Sarah McWhirter took 2nd in the girls 500 Free and Amy Hitzel took 3rd in the girls 100 Back. Adrian Iannamico and Wirth Federico finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the 100 Back. Dharma Hufnagel and Leon Grinberg finished 2nd in the girls and boys 100 Breast.

Many other swimmers contributed to the Gladiator win by achieving personal best times. Included in that group are: Tobin Quinn (200 Free), Bella Cicogna (200 IM and 100 Fly), Hallee Becher (200 IM and 100 Free), Christopher Bodea (50 Free), Josh Kohler (50 Free and 100 Free), Jordan Klustner (50 Free), Nathan Benne (50 Free), Jason Steel (50 Free), Chris Pearce (50 Free and 100 Free), Andrew Shin (50 Free), Madeline Simmons (50 Free and 100 Free), Charlotte Lowe (50 Free), Rhea Ghosh (50 Free), Wirth Federico (100 Fly), Connor Schorer (100 Free), Brandon Tilson (100 Free), Steven Tchantouria (100 Free), Evie Davalbhakta (100 Free), Harel Ziv (100 Free), Matthew Gang (500 Free), and Adar Horowitz (500 Free).

Gladiators will take on Chattahoochee this Monday, January 16 at 10:00am. The meet will be held at Dynamo in Alpharetta. Come on out and cheer us on to another victory!

Fulton County Championship 2017

The JCHS swim and dive team crushed the competition yet again at the Fulton County Championship meet which was held Thursday, January 12! JCHS made a clean sweep! There were 10 teams present and both girls’ and boys’ teams scored over 100 points more than the nearest competitor and the combined team score was 275 points more that the nearest competitor which was Alpharetta. Incredible feat for the Gladiators!

Our fantastic divers scored a combined 69 points before the swimming events began. Junior Tori Templet won the girls 1-meter diving defeating her friend and Cambridge diver Maddie Chaloux, by only 2 points! Senior Emma Brown placed an amazing third with Sophomore Jackie Lopez and Junior Abby Friedel in tenth and thirteenth, respectively. In the boys 1-meter diving Junior Oliver Junnila placed sixth and Sophomore Harrison Dunmire took ninth place.

The swimmers were on fire setting several NEW MEET RECORDS which included:

Michael Taylor, Adrian Iannamico, Samuel Song and Ethan Davey with a time of 1:38.10 in the boys 200 medley relay,

Ryan Showfety, Tatum Smith, Addie Farrington and Alison Durrence with a time of 1:50.37 in the girls 200 medley relay,

Michael Taylor in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:39.54,

Samuel Song in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 59.55,

and Addie Farrington in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:04.62.

We had several swimmers achieve new state cuts including Amy Hitzel in the 100 back, Leon Grinberg in the 50 free and Connor Schorer in the 200 IM.

Each swimmer and diver played a vital role in the JCHS win at the Fulton County Championships! In addition to the above standout performances, the following swimmers achieved personal best times for the season: Chase Kennedy (200 Free), Matthew Gang (200 Free and 500 Free), Aliya Ohayon (200 Free and 500 Free), Connor Schorer (200 IM), Ruixing Zhang (200 IM), Addie Farrington (200 IM and 100 Breast), Zoe Oliphant (200 IM), Leon Grinberg (50 Free), David Burton (50 Free), Tyler Kitchens (50 Free and 100 Free), Andrew Logan (50 Free and 100 Free), Drew Hill (50 Free), Allie ElGomayel (50 Free and 100 Free), Katie Kohler (50 Free and 100 Free), Grace Nelson (50 Free), Turner Hill (100 Fly), Tatum Smith (100 Fly), Hallee Becher (100 Fly and 100 Back), Wirth Federico (100 Free and 100 Back), Alison Durrence (100 Free), Charlotte Lowe (100 Free), Madeline Simmons (100 Free), Michelle Lee (500 Free), Adrian Iannamico (100 Back), Amy Hitzel (100 Back and 100 Breast), Dharma Hufnagel (100 Breast).

JCHS vs. Lambert

JCHS Gladiators went up against 3-year reigning state champions, Lambert Longhorns on Thursday evening, December 1.

It was a highly competitive meet thought the Gladiators fell just short of a victory.  Even so, we had some fantastic swimming and diving!

In girls diving, Tori Templet took 1st, Emma Brown took 3rd and Jackie Lopez 4th.  The boys had a great showing as well with Oliver Junilla taking 1st and Harrison Dunmire taking 3rd.  The divers performance significantly helped the score for the team as a whole.

The Gladiator swimmers fought hard against the Longhorns with many first place finishes and new state cuts.  New state qualifying times included Chase Kennedy in the 200 Free, Adrian Iannamico in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Back, Ethan Davey in the 100 Free, Alison Durrence in the 100 Free and 500 Free, Sydney Petrie in the 200 Free and 500 Free, Ryan Showfety in the 100 Back and Leon Grinberg in the 100 Breast.  Other first place finishes included David Hsi in the 200 IM and 100 Breast, and Chase Kennedy in the 500 Free.

McCallie Swim Meet

The Gladiators Swim and Dive team traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee  this weekend for the 24th McCallie Invitational Swim and Dive Meet.  The girls team placed 12th overall and the boys team placed 9th overall, competing with teams from Georgia and Tennessee.

The meet began Friday night with the dive portion of six dives from the 1 meter board.  The Gladiators were well represented by Emma Brown, Tori Templet and Caroline West, each performing their best dives.

Saturday the swimmers took over the pool with some impressive swims and several state cuts.   Congratulations to our state meet qualifiers:

Wirth Federico, Leon Grinberg, Tobin Quinn and Ethan Davey in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48:49 and the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:32:48

Ethan Davey in the 200 Free with a time of 1:48:93 and the 100 Free with a time of 49:62

Leon Grinberg in the 100 breaststroke  with a time of 1:05:49

Come cheer on the JCHS Swim and Dive team as they take on Lambert on Thursday, December 1st at the Cumming Aquatic Center!

 

 

Swim Practice over Thanksgiving Break will be as follows:

Monday  11/21    2- 3:30 pm

Tuesday  11/22   2 – 3:30 pm

Wednes  11/23   2 – 3:30 pm

Friday     11/25   2 – 3:30 pm

Practice attendance is mandatory and counted towards your varsity letter.

 

 

Raider Relay Meet – 11/5

What a great way to start the season!!!! Gladiators came in 1st place in the Raider Relay meet against Alpharetta, Cambridge, Chattahoochee, and Milton!  Fast and fun swims!
