Gladiators News · JCHS Cross Country Bob Blastow Early Bird Recap 8.27.16

Saturday’s Cross Country (8/27) meet brought the Gladiators to Whitesburg, GA, over 70 miles southwest from home. The weather was brutally hot starting out at 75 degrees with 99% humidity, making the runners feel like they were running in over 100 degrees! This did not stop many of our runners who broke Personal Records or “PRs” all day! Coach Wendy Rinesmith said that the coaches made the kids take off their running watches before the races because “The theme of the day was to run by feel,” and it worked!

The Varsity Boys were again led by Junior Matt Wozniak in a time of 17:11.85, which put him in the all time Boys leaderboard in 7th place and moved him up to 6th all time for Juniors! James Springer also had a fast time of 17:22.85, and moved him in to 7th place all time for Juniors! Bradley Arms had a time of 17:43.55 which put him in to the record books as the 10th Senior in JCHS history! Milton took team honors and JCHS was 9th out of 27 schools.

Varsity Girls were not going to be outdone by the Boys as Sophie Brandeis ran a fast 20:46.80, which was good enough to put her in 7th place of all time for Junior Girls!  Ninth grader, Dani Blank who left the tumbling world to run Cross Country, did not disappoint with a speedy 21:09.72, which was 6th of all time for Freshman Girls at JCHS!  South Forsyth was fastest of all the Varsity Girls, while Johns Creek was 12th out of 21 teams.

The JV Boys were led by Adar Horowitz in a time of 17:52.60 making him the 10th fastest Junior in JCHS history! Adar’s strategy for the race was, “Go out fast and don’t look back!”  JCHS was 7th out of 35 schools with South Forsyth on top.

Freshman Julianna Arms (Bradley Arms’ sister) was the fastest JV Girl for Johns Creek in a time of 24:00.58. Milton took first place and JCHS was 13th out of 30 schools

In the Mixed Open division, Junior Colton Ross was first overall in the entire race in a time of 18:03.76! Johns Creek Boys finished 4th out of 23 schools with South Forsyth winning the race. Johanna Chien, Freshman, was the first Girl for JCHS in a time of 24:54.36. Milton Girls were victorious, while the JCHS Girls team was 7th out of 20 schools.

Head Coach Danny Brock thought that “The kids ran great despite the heat and humidity. We ran them hard this week, and I think once it starts to cool down the kids will really start dropping time. It’s always fun for me to take the kids where I trained and grew up. The meet director and I coached a state championship together in 2000. So Saturday was fun for me not just because I was pleased with our athletes, but got to see old friends I consider family.”

The Johns Creek XC Gladiators will have their next meet on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Covered Bridge Run in Roswell.
