In their first regional game, the Gladiators soundly defeated the Pope Greyhounds, 39-13. The first half was close, but in the second half, the Gladiators scored 29 points compared to Pope’s 7 points to make it a resounding win!
Behind the Front Five (Jones, Kalin, Coco, Quinn, and Terragno), the offense turned it on, generating 269 passing yards and 199 rushing yards for a total of 468 yards. Zack Gibson completed 13 of 19, hitting Zack Williams for an 80 yard TD. Zack Williams had 5 receptions for 213 yards for the night! Matthew Taylor delivered 158 yards of rushing and two TDs! Other offensive standouts included Matthew Kriteman with 43 all-purpose yards, Reed Maness with 17 yards receiving, and Cole Neuber who ran in an extra point attempt.
The defense was steady throughout the game recovering one fumble (Somers) and two interceptions (Myers and Neuber). Defensive leaders included Myles Myers with 6 tackles and 8 assists, KJ Simpson with 3 tackles and 2 assists and Jonathan Lubin with 2 tackles, 2 assists and 1 sack.
The special teams continued their steady performance with 7 points from Jake Friant (1 field goal and 4 PATs) and 401 yards on 7 kick-offs and Christopher Sullivan with 6 punts averaging 35 yards each.
