Johns Creek Gladiators Varsity grabbed an early lead on its way to a 7-4 victory over Pope on Monday. Johns Creek Gladiators Varsity scored on a groundout by Aaron Rosenberg in the first inning, a single by Michael Margarite in the second inning, a walk by Matt Gravely in the second inning, and a single by Rosenberg in the second inning.
Pope knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Caden Smith singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Johns Creek Gladiators Varsity pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Zach Hall reached on a dropped third strike, Margarite singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Rosenberg singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.
Cam Bartlett took the win for Johns Creek Gladiators Varsity. He lasted five innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out one. Tyler Watson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Watson recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Johns Creek Gladiators Varsity.
Max Pralgo took the loss for Pope. He went four innings, allowing six runs on five hits and striking out two.
