As the 2017-18 school year has come to an end, it has truly been an outstanding year for our JCHS Athletic Department.  After coming off an amazing 2016-17 campaign, the Gladiators picked up right where they left off and pushed the envelope with every competition.  Here is a recap of the year by season:

Fall Sports

Competition Cheer – 6A Sectional Champions /  Placed 5th in State

Girls Cross Country – 2nd in Region / Placed 5th in State

Girls Volleyball – 2nd in Region / Final 4 in State


Winter Sports

Boys Swim & Dive – Fulton County Champions / 2nd in State

Girls Swim & Dive – Fulton County Champions / 2nd in State

Wrestling – 4 State Qualifiers / 1st ever State Finalist who Finished 2nd


Spring Sports

Boys Tennis – Region Champions / State Champions

Boys Golf – Area Champions / State Champions (3peat)

Girls Golf – 2nd in Area / State Runner Up

Girls Soccer – Region Champions / Final 4 in State

Girls Tennis – 4th in Region / Final 4 in State

Girls Track – Region Champions / 6th in State

Boys Lacrosse – 2nd in Region / Sweet 16 in State

Girls Lacrosse – 2nd in Region / Sweet 16 in State

Girls Swimming – Tatum Smith – 4 Time 50 meter State Champion / 100 Freestyle Runner up

Girls Swimming – 200 medley relay State Champions – Ryan Showfety, Tatum Smith, Adeline Farrington, & Lauren Ford

Wrestling – Scean Major – 132 lbs State Runner Up

Girls Track & Field – Makayla Wood – State Runner Up Pole Vault

Boys Track and Field – Caden Ciuil – 2 Time State Champion 300 meter Hurdles

Region Coach of the Year Girls Soccer – Mary Byrne

6A State & Region AD of the Year – Jason Holcombe


Georgia Athletic Directors Association:  Directors Cup

The GADA Directors Cup is used to recognize those athletic departments in all GHSA classifications who have excelled and shown superior performance.  Each school’s 8 highest scoring sports for each gender shall be counted in the Regions Bank Director Cup Standings.  In the 2017-2018 school year, JCHS has ranked as one of the highest athletic programs in the state:

Boys Sports = 407 points – Ranked 13th in 6A

Girls Sports = 651 points – Director Cup Champions

Overall = 1058 points – Ranked 3rd in 6A

This is the 9th year of JCHS athletics.  During that 9 year span, our athletic department has ranked in the top ten of the GADA Overall Directors Cup 6 different times:

2010-11 – 10th in 4A

2011-12 – 2nd in 4A

2015-16 – 8th in 6A

2016-17 – 2nd in 6A

2017-18 – 3rd in 6A
