On Wednesday, March 20th JCHS hosted a total cheer program community meeting to announce the new direction of the program starting with the 2019-2020 school year. Please read below for more information:
The following individuals were announced as Cheer Program coaches:
Bri Helms – Director of Cheer Operations
Coach Helms is a form English teacher at JCHS who will be returning to our school in 2019-2020 school year as assistant administrator. She will be working closely with the JCHS Administration and over see the entire cheer program. She will serve as the head coach of the program, will help lead all GAA Booster Club meetings, and work closely with all other coaches in the program. Coach Helms will be on our campus everyday next fall and will be the direct point of contact for athletes during the day for the cheer program.
Larry Lawson – Assistant Coach and Cheer Program Coordinator
Coach Lawson will be joining our staff in the fall as an assistant coach and cheer program coordinator. He is a former JCHS cheer coach who helped create the cheer program at JCHS 10 years ago. Coach Lawson has an extensive cheer background that starts as his days as a division 1 cheerleader at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Coach Lawson has also owned and ran his own all star competition gym. He is returning to the JCHS program to serve as the cheer program coordinator to develop both our spirit and competition programs.
MacKenzie Hudson – Assistant Coach
Coach Hudson is remaining on staff with our cheer program. In the 2018-19 season she served as an assistant cheer coach and helped coach the Jv Competition team. Coach Hudson is an alumnus of JCHS and a former division 1 cheerleader. She also serves as a coach for a local all star competition gym. Coach Hudson will serve as an assistant coach for both our spirit and competition programs
Shantea Drumgole – Assistant Coach
Coach Drumgole is remaining on staff with our cheer program. In the 2018-19 season she served as an assistant cheer coach with our Jv Basketball cheer squad. In mid season she stepped up to help run the Varsity Basketball cheer squad after our former head coach moved out of state. Coach Drumgole was a key part in helping our Basketball cheer squad become a central part of our winter sports program. Coach Drumgole with serve as an assistant coach for our spirit programs.
2019-2020 Cheer Tryout Information
Starting with tryouts this spring, all JCHS Cheer programs will fall under ONE program. This means that all athletes who are interested in being a part of the cheer program will tryout this spring. Our program will center around picking the best athletes for our overall spirit program. From that group, our coaching staff will select the best athletes who will serve as competition cheer leaders. The tryout process will start with interviews by the coaching staff on April 11th and 12th. The actual tryouts will take place from April 15th to April 24th after school. Every athlete interested in trying out for our cheer program needs to download the forms below, complete them, and submit them to the front office by April 8th.
