Johns Creek Varsity Gladiators Fall 4–2 in Season Opener at Alpharetta
ALPHARETTA, GA — The Johns Creek Varsity Gladiators opened their 2026 GHSA regular season Monday night with a hard-fought 4–2 road loss to the Alpharetta Varsity Raiders.
Senior pitcher Donny Myers took the mound for the Gladiators in the season opener, working through four innings and allowing three runs on two hits, with only two of the runs earned. Myers struck out four Raiders before turning the ball over to the bullpen.
Reliever Rhys Williams delivered an impressive performance in support, tossing four innings and giving up just one unearned run on one hit. Williams struck out six and did not issue a walk, keeping the Gladiators within striking range throughout the second half of the game.
Offensively, Johns Creek was led by Jesse Johns, who sparked the attack with a lead off double and Drew King who contributed an RBI single. Sean Kennedy produced the team’s second run with an RBI groundout. Luke Volpe added a hit as well.
Despite generating multiple scoring opportunities, the Gladiators were unable to capitalize late as Alpharetta held on for the win.
The Johns Creek Varsity Gladiators will look to rebound on Thursday, February 12, when they travel to Centennial High School for a 6:00 PM first pitch.
